The Biggest problem in MLM.....Attrition!

Posted by Charmaine Anne MacDonald on February 28, 2021 - 1:18pm

Did you know most people quit everything they do. People quit marriages, going to the gym, weight loss programs, saving money, New Year's resolutions and hundreds of others things. MLM is no different.

People quit our industry for many different reasons and it normally has nothing to do with you or your company.

I was once told that we are a business of attrition. Not everyone will stay. You don't want everyone to stay. Anywhere from 50% to 80% or more of your team will drop out each year REGARDLESS of what you do to help them.

Even with those types of numbers, don't fret. You can still build a big team and big check. Your real job is to do two things. Your first objective is to make sure everyone has a good experience, whether they decide to stay or leave. Your next objective is to MINIMIZE attrition. Even if you can reduce your team's attrition by 10 or 15 percent per year, it will have a HUGE positive impact on your commission check.

Dealing with Attrition

In the paragraphs below, I'll share some simple things you can do to reduce attrition.

# 1: Taproot and build depth under people. Fear of loss will do more to keep people active than anything else you can do. When you sponsor someone, help them sponsor 1 or 2 and then go work with those people. Keep repeating this process over and over in depth until you find your LEADERS. When someone has someone "UNDER" them doing something, it will keep them engaged (in most cases).

# 2: Help people get a check quickly. Your objective is to help your new person make their first retail sale or sponsor their first person within their first 24 to 48 hours. This will help build up their belief and show them the business works.

# 3: Get people using the products. If your company has great products, which I assume it does, you want people on auto-ship, using the products. This will help them develop a good product story and testimonial. Also, if they truly love the products, they will keep ordering the products, even if they stop building the business.

# 4: Never pressure people to do more with the business than they want to. Don't expect people to be at your level of motivation or commitment. Meet people where they are at and help them reach THEIR goals, whatever they might be.

# 5: Build friendships and relationships. It's harder to quit on a stranger than a friend. Invest time building relationships with people on your team. People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

# 6: Try to make sure everyone has a good experience, whether they decide to stay or leave. Treat everyone well. Be nice to others.

# 7: Create a team culture that is so strong, no one wants to leave it. Create an environment where people can be part of something bigger than themselves. Teams that play together, stay together. Have events. Have fun. Spend time together. Make people feel important. Recognize people for their contributions.

# 8: Get people plugged into your team's system. The system is the solution. Introduce people to your team, your system, and your upline. That way, there is more than just you. By plugging them in, you can save time and let the system help you. Plus, you can introduce your team members to other team members they can relate with.

# 9: Have realistic expectations. Even if you follow the advice in this article, most people will still quit. That is a fact. That's okay. Don't expect everyone to stay. Instead, expect everyone will do nothing and quit, but HOPE that they will stay and build it big. The only way to be disappointed is to have expectations of other people.

Key Takeaway

Here are the most important things to remember. It's better to run with one than push 20. Work with the willing. Set a good example for others to follow and work with the people who DESERVE your time, based upon their actions.

Conclusion

In conclusion, these are some of my best tips on how to deal with attrition in your MLM Business. I hope you found the information helpful.
