Australia announced on Monday that it would buy up to five nuclear submarines from the United States and, in the longer term, build a new generation of nuclear submarines together with the United States and Great Britain. At a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in San Diego, California, US President Joe Biden stressed that the deal would not give Australia any nuclear weapons.
