For the first time since the outbreak of the corona pandemic, China is again allowing foreign tourists into the country. All types of visas will be issued again from Wednesday, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday. The visa requirement for areas in China for which visas were not required before the pandemic is no longer applicable. This also applies to the southern tourist island of Hainan and to cruise ships calling at the port of Shanghai.
Visa-free entry into the southern production center of Guangdong for foreigners from Hong Kong and Macau will also be reintroduced. The ministry also said that foreigners with visas issued before March 28, 2020 and whose validity has not yet expired can also enter China.
Boosting the tourism sector is likely to help revive the economy hit by strict coronavirus lockdowns, which last year saw one of the slowest growth rates in nearly half a century.
