Czech Republic does not recognize "Cannabis Church" as a religion

The "cannabis church" is not recognized as a religious community in the Czech Republic. The Supreme Administrative Court in Brno (Brno) on Friday dismissed an appeal against a corresponding decision by the Ministry of Culture. The judges stated that religion lacks a relationship to the metaphysical, i.e. what lies behind the sensual experience. In addition, it does not deal with existential questions and does not have a comprehensible ethical program.

The court also questioned the seriousness of the applicants. There is much to suggest that what they really want is to be able to use cannabis as a "prayer tool" in the name of freedom of worship. The possession of cannabis and marijuana is generally punishable in the Czech Republic. In practice, however, prosecution can be avoided in the case of small quantities. For medical purposes, a doctor's prescription is possible.
