London: Conflicts over the Russian army show a difficult situation

British secret services see tensions between the Russian government and the Russian mercenary group Wagner as a sign of the precarious situation in the Ukraine war. The conflicts, some of which have been held in public, made it clear how difficult it is to maintain a sufficient level of personnel and ammunition in the current Russian offensive, the British Ministry of Defense said in its daily briefing on Tuesday.

The head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, had repeatedly criticized the Russian military leadership. According to Prigozhin, the Wagner fighters blocked the city of Bakhmut, which had been heavily fought over for months. Now the Ukrainian soldiers tried to encircle the Russian units and break the blockade. "Ukrainian armed forces will fight for Artemovsk (Russian for Bakhmut) to the end, that's obvious. We should do our job to the end," Prigozhin said. He again demanded more ammunition from the Russian military leadership.

The fact that Ukraine is continuing to defend Bakhmut is weakening the armed forces on both sides, the British said. The Ukrainians were said to have been able to stabilize their defense line over the weekend after Russian troops had previously penetrated the north of the city. Supply, on the other hand, is becoming increasingly difficult because important access routes have been destroyed and the Ukrainians are increasingly having to resort to muddy, unpaved roads for supplies.

According to their own statements, the Ukrainian armed forces have repelled more than 140 Russian attacks on the front in the east of the country in the past few days. Despite heavy losses, the enemy is still trying to storm Bakhmut and its surroundings, the Ukrainian military announced on Tuesday. Russian troops trying to encircle the Ukrainian defenders launched 37 attacks just near the village of Dubovo-Vasilivka northwest of Bakhmut.

Since the beginning of the war, Ukraine has received 450 shipments of power plants totaling 5,650 tons as humanitarian aid from international partners. This was stated by Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko, reports the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform. "Thanks to this help, we were able to restore a large number of energy infrastructure objects that had been shelled by the Russians with rockets, drones and artillery," Galushchenko said. The aid received included more than 1,700 power generators, about 1,000 transformers, mobile gas boilers, special equipment, high-voltage equipment for repairing power transmission lines, and a mobile cable laboratory. In total, Ukraine received aid from 30 countries. Austria has also supplied generators.

The British Ministry of Defense has published daily updates on the course of the war since the start of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, citing intelligence information. In doing so, the British government wants to both counter the Russian portrayal and keep allies in line. Moscow accuses London of a disinformation campaign.
