US President Joe Biden has chosen new colors for the presidential planes. The desired Air Force One livery of his predecessor Donald Trump has thus been discarded.

The incumbent President has opted for a classic blue and white color scheme that former US President John F. Kennedy flew 60 years ago.
Trump wanted darker colors
Trump proposed a new design for Air Force One in 2019. The color scheme was much more eye-catching and more based on the national colors red, white and blue. However, the dark blue color caused problems due to "greater heat generation", the Luftwaffe explained.
Coincidence or not, the proposed design for the new presidential plane bore an unmistakable resemblance to the livery of the jets used privately by Trump. In particular, the deep red stripe in the center of the fuselage was reminiscent of the Trump jet. That's why Trump's paint job was quite controversial.

New Air Force One from 2027
The heavily modified jumbo jets are based on the Boeing 747-8i. They will replace the aging presidential planes based on the Boeing 747-200 that have flown US presidents around the world since the early 1990s. By the way, the last Boeing 747-200 was produced in 1987.
The new Air Force One planes are scheduled to be delivered by Boeing in 2027 and 2028, so the winner of the 2024 presidential election will take off first on the new planes.
