The computer game Stalker, released in 2007, enjoys cult status. The post-apocalyptic shooter takes place in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. Setting, mood and story are still a reason for fans to get sentimental. Stalker is also credited with pioneering the equally acclaimed Metro series, also made in Ukraine and featuring former members of the Stalker game studio.

The last game in the Stalker series was released in 2009. Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is supposed to be released this year. The war in Ukraine has made work at the Ukrainian development studio GSC more difficult. In addition, there have been regular attacks on GSC since the previous year. The hackers appear to be from Russia and organized in a Russian social network.
