Foods For Good Gut Health

Posted by Bobby Brown on October 28, 2023 - 3:07pm

Many people often talk or ask about the best foods for gut health, but what about the worst foods?

Many of these may come to no surprise, but these are some of the foods you'll want to limit or avoid if you are looking to improve your gut health.

Processed foods: Specifically looking at processed foods that are high in sugar, unhealthy fats, and artificial ingredients. These foods can disrupt the balance of gut bacteria and lead to inflammation. Opt for whole foods and higher protein snacks to help satisfy hunger.

Sugary drinks: Sugary drinks, such as soda, juice (we're looking at you Apple Juice and OJ), and sports drinks, are also bad for gut health. Sugar can feed bad bacteria in the gut and lead to inflammation. Opt for sugar reduced or zero-sugar beverages. We enjoy water with lemon and added electrolytes.

Fried foods: Fried foods are high in unhealthy fats, which can disrupt the balance of gut bacteria and lead to inflammation. Not to mention cooked in cheap oils often sprayed with glyphosate (corn, soybean, canola). Opt for a baked or grilled option with a non-fried side dish.

Alcohol: While this is a liquid, alcohol is technically considered a food. Alcohol can damage the lining of the gut and disrupt the balance of gut bacteria. Consider a lower ABV option, or non-alcohol alternative.

Artificial sweeteners: Artificial sweeteners, such as sucralose and aspartame, can also disrupt the balance of gut bacteria. Opt for a natural, plant-based sweetener such as monk fruit, stevia, or yacon syrup.

While these are all good items to avoid, we understand that you are human and that sometimes life might call for some greasy food and a pint of beer. For those times, and all others, consider taking ION* Gut Support to better protect your gut lining and help naturally diversity your microbiome.
