It’s that time of year again, Riding Season.  The two big boys atop the baggers are at it again, Indian vs Harley. Harley came out swinging this year with all new designs on their models, colors, price point, etc.. and they look good. Indian has followed suit with new colors, elite models and more! Before we move forward, full disclosure here, I have worked for both company’s, I have rode the majority of both company’s motorcycles over the years and I have sold motorcycles for both company’s over a period on 18 plus years.

The one thing I can positively say without a doubt, is that- The Harley Davidson Company has done an incredible job building a “cult” like following over the 100 plus years in business. The “Bad Boy” image has worked for them, and still does to this day. No other company that I know of has done what Harley has done when it comes to image! Many people want to buy a Harley simply because, “ it’s a Harley”.  Folks that is tuff to compete with.

For me, there are two big differences between the two brands. The first is how the motorcycles are made and they are built very differently from the frame up. The other is the ride and that has 100% to do with how the motorcycle is built. All you have to do is sit on one, pull up to center and you will no doubt feel the difference, one is heavier (the Harley), the other much lighter (the Indian) and it all has to do with how they are built. The next step is just ride one, and you will notice that one feels much heavier in the front end (Harley) and the other much lighter (Indian), which results in a much better and smoother ride.

When it comes to power, Indian still prevails with their liquid cooled motors, low end torque is amazing. Harley is coming along in this area as well, but I still give Indian the edge.  

It really comes down to this, when you have two big Company’s, Indian Motorcycle and Harley Davidson competing against each other, you the consumer wins. You get to choose! Keep an open mind when it comes to comparing the two brands, and make sure you take a  test drive to make sure whatever motorcycle you choose is the right one for you.

I think when you truly compare the two brands you too will come to the same conclusion the Indian Motorcycle is a better built unit and much more comfortable to ride, but please feel the difference yourself and leave your bias at the door when you shop and compare.
