Temperature and Your Gut

It’s not likely that you’ve thought about how temperature affects your gut, but it is important to note that your digestion actually slows down in the summer months. Here are a few tips you’re likely already practicing year-round but are especially important during the hotter months.

1. Stay Hydrated 💦 You body is working hard to keep your temperature down through sweating but sipping on water moderately throughout the day can help avoid constipation, heatstroke, and nausea.
2. Eat Slower 😋 With your body’s focus on using energy to keep yourself cool, this can divert energy from things like digestion. Consider eating at a slower pace to allow your gut to keep up!
3. Eat More Fiber 🥬 Since your digestion may be slowed to divert energy to keeping the body cool, fiber will help aid your system in digestion, which makes it even more important during the summer.
