Progress

Progress

Are you ready to continually make progress in all the days of your life? This is Bob Proctor with another Six Minutes to Success for you.

It’s on progress and showing you how to get Results that Stick. Progress is an interesting word. My old mentor, Earl Nightingale (Lloyd Conant’s partner who started the personal development industry in the recorded fashion as we know it today) started to look for the secret to success in 1934, and it wasn’t until 1951 that it dawned on him. Success was the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.

I got that in 1961. I have never changed a word in it. Earl passed on to the next phase of his eternal journey in 1989, and he never changed a word in that great definition of success. It is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.

Now that would indicate if you’re not progressing, you’re not successful. If you are progressing, you are successful. And as Earl explained one time, "Progress isn’t going ahead then leveling out and then going back then going ahead." He said, "Progress is continually moving in an upward direction." And he said, "You’re successful if you know where you are, and you know where you’re going.” It has nothing to do with your money or your position. It has to do with the direction you’re travelling. If you know where you are, and you know where you’re going, and you’re progressively moving in that direction you are a successful person.

You might have 5 million in your estate working towards 25 million, and you’re progressively moving in that direction...you’re a successful person. You could be a student in school with a C and D average and you’re working towards an A and B average, and you’re progressively moving in that direction...you’re a successful person. Each one of these examples are equally as successful as the other because they're progressively moving in the direction of their dream.

Progress is an interesting word. And you know something? Most people (a clear 97%) don't have that idea fixed in their mind. And so there are days when they’re progressive and there are days when they’re going backwards.

There are some days when they’re stuck. There are some days when they’re thinking, I don’t know what to do! Do the next chore. Do the thing that’s in front of you. Make certain that you are progressing towards your goal with everything you do. Yet if it’s taking you in the wrong direction stop doing it.

Progress is the, absolute, essential quality in our life. We want to be progressive individuals so as you go through the day say, "Is this causing me to progress?" Am I moving in the right direction? You’re going to get to love the word. I’ve loved it for a long time. I got it in 1961. I thought that’s such a perfect definition of success. Adopt it. Do what I did, and I guarantee you you’ll start moving in that direction. I want to make all of my actions that way. I don’t want to go backwards. And I know you don’t, so turn progress into a habit. That’s an idea in your subconscious mind you act on without thinking. I’ll talk about this a little later on in another lesson.

Make sure all day long you progress and you’re going to get Results that Stick.

This is Bob Proctor and thank you.
