The infamous shark hand case in Australia

In 1935, the infamous shark hand case began when a captured tiger shark overturned a human hand. The tiger shark was in the bathrooms of the Kugi aquarium for public display. Only a week later, he got very sick and started vomiting in front of a crowd. What came out was the hand of a man with a very specific tattoo. The shark seems to have eaten a small shark that ate its hand before it was caught.

The investigation quickly became the main news after the tattoo revealed that the hand belonged to James "Jim" Smith. Smith was a former boxer and juvenile offender who disappeared completely. It turned out that Smith was also a police informant, so he is more likely to be killed. The coroner confirmed that the hand was not cut by a shark but by a knife.

The owner of the aquarium mysteriously killed the shark and escaped, which slowed down the police investigation. Many suspected that the gang had bribed him. However, the investigation led the police to William Holmes, a notorious smuggler, and fraudster. He also had a family business of building boats which was very successful. The ambassador allegedly gave information to Smith.

No one was found dead, but Holmes is believed to have been involved. When police approached, he attempted suicide. But his .32-caliber pistol stunned him until he tried to avoid hospitalization after hours of police chase around Sydney Harbor. Holmes eventually agreed to cooperate with the police but died a few days later after withdrawing £ 500 from his bank account.

A very strange story about an Australian criminal stronghold that has never really been solved. All because he turned the shark's hand upside down! Later, the theory emerged that Smith had to pay money to the main member of the gang, called Eddie Wiman, who was known for bank fraud during that period.
