Bank in China opened digital yuan to clients, but quickly changed its mind

A large Chinese bank opened the registration of digital yuan wallets to a mass audience without any announcements, but soon limited access, writes CoinDesk.

On Saturday around noon local time, customers of China Construction Bank (CCB), one of the country's four largest commercial banks, began noticing the presence of a central bank digital currency wallet feature in a mobile internet banking application. To activate it, it was suggested to enter a mobile phone number.

When exactly the function was made available is unclear. However, the news quickly spread in the local cryptocurrency community and media. Some users have managed to carry out transactions for small amounts by linking accounts in CCB to a wallet.

In the application interface, each user was assigned a special identifier that can be used to carry out transactions between wallets and accounts in the CCB. It is also possible to send transactions by phone number.

By now, the digital wallet function has again become unavailable for ordinary users. Searching for “digital currency” in the app now brings up a message: “This feature is not yet officially available to the public. Please be patient. "

At the same time, recent events confirm the work of CCB to integrate the digital yuan of the People's Bank of China into its services. Under the leadership of the regulator, the country's largest commercial banks are developing their own digital yuan wallets and conducting internal testing with the participation of a limited number of customers and retail outlets. When the access to the wallets will be made available to the general public is unknown.
