Earn trust by sharing and asking for help

One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that I don’t have to know everything and more importantly, not to pretend to know everything.

We all have ego issue and don't want to be embarrassed. Like most people who are eager to show their capabilities and high potential, as a newbie at the beginning, I worked hard on getting myself equipped with the knowledge required so that I believe I can gain trust from colleagues and friends. It turned out to be sharing what I know is not enough.

What I realize is by only sharing what I know and doing things right as I promised, I can be reliable but not trusted. Instead, combined with sharing what I don’t know and reach out for help like friendship in which we share both happiness and pain, then trust emerges.

So Trust is a feeling which takes place not purely based on reliability or professionalism. A very typical example is that we tend to trust the advice of buying a specific brand TV from our friends rather than any TV expert who we don't know.
