A leader is not defined by their rank

It comes with the territory.  As a network marketing professional, the goal is to develop an large worldwide organisation and so it follows, that we must learn to lead.

Being a good leader gives you:
- leverage
- duplication
- longevity and legacy

Conversely, poor leaders get:
- no leverage, and are always stuck doing all the work
- duplication of poor practises and habits
- limited life span of business, high rate of turnover

So how do we step up into effective leadership?  What are the principles that we observe in the greatest leaders in this business?

Firstly, in order to be a great leader, we first need to be an intelligent follower. We all start out as followers in this business - trying to learn the ropes, the best practices, the scripts and the science. The intelligent followers seek out knowledge.  They attend events. They mirror the activities of their leaders.

You may have heard our top leaders talking about the key to this business being duplication. Pause for a moment and answer the following question with honesty: do you want your team duplicating you at this very moment? If the answer is no, then you are still refining how to be an intelligent follower.

So, how do you expedite your transition from follower to leader? Let's explore the core leadership traits:

1. Consistency
You can’t show up every other day and become a leader.  A leader can be counted on to be a leader every day.

2. Clarity of vision
You need to have clarity about the big goals, but also know exactly what your vision/goal is for every day.

3. Initiative & courage
Step out and step forward.  Don't be afraid to make mistakes.  Don't wait for someone else to make a path and lead the way.  Make decisions, get things started.  Try new things.

A leader is not defined by their rank, or by the dollars on their commission statement.  A leader is defined by his or her attitude.  Refine your skills as an intelligent follower and you will naturally evolve into a person people want to follow.
