Argentina has a couple places that make our best places to go in South America list, and the two destinations are wildly different.
The first, Buenos Aires, is the capital city of Argentina, and it’s a large, thriving metropolis that is a popular cruise port of call. Argentina is known for its music and dancing, and an excursion that teaches you how to tango is a fun and cultural way to spend the day. Cruisers can also visit one of the many excellent restaurants in the city to feast on Argentina’s world-class steaks and local Malbec wine.
The other top destination in Argentina that you don’t want to miss seeing is Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world.
While in Ushuaia, marvel at the massive glaciers and mountains framing the city and get out into nature with some hikes through Tierra del Fuego National Park. A fun way to get there is on the Southern Fuegian Railway steam train, often called by its nickname of the Train of the End of the World.
In the city center of Ushuaia, you’ll find shops and restaurants, and the End of the World museum. This interesting museum will teach you about the history of Ushuaia, which has a past as a missionary base, penal colony, and naval base, and also showcases artifacts from the indigenous inhabitants that lived in the area thousands of years ago.
