Blueberries, not fruit juice, cut type-2 diabetes risk: Some whole fruits, but not fruit juice, help protect against type 2 diabetes, a new study in the British Medical Journal suggests. At least three servings a week of blueberries, apples or grapes appear to be particularly effective for lowering diabetes risk. The study found that “blueberries cut the risk by 26% compared with 2% for three servings of any whole fruit – but fruit juice did not appear to have the same effect.” The study’s data was drawn from the diets of over 187,000 people in the U.S.
Study: IQ drops with worries over money: Financial woes may hurt more than your wallet. A new study shows that “people worrying about having enough money to pay bills tend to lose temporarily the equivalent of 13 IQ points.” The researchers, a team of economists and psychologists, suggest that “financial stress monopolizes thinking, making other calculations slower and more difficult, sort of like the effects of going without sleep for a night.”
