In most of the industrialized world prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death among men. Though no specific prevention program exists, there are things you can do for yourself and the men you care about to help build a healthy prostate.

Main nutrients

There are four causes of health imbalances: trauma, toxins, deficiencies and stress. The prostate is imbalanced by these same four fundamental causes. Prostate-specific nutrients include:

Low levels of zinc supplementation have been associated with low levels of prostate disease, whereas no dietary zinc and too much zinc have been associated with an increase of prostate disease. In fact, people who regularly take over 100 mg of daily zinc experience over a 200% increase in prostate cancer risk! The message is clear: Take a modest amount of zinc for best results.

We make many of the hormones associated with a healthy prostate from good dietary fats and Omega EFA supplements. Certainly fish, flax and perilla seed oils provide the Omega-3 you may need and evening primrose oil provides the Omega-6 essential fatty acid your prostate needs. Beta sitosterol is another anti-inflammatory source of healthy fats. So are saw palmetto and pumpkin seeds. Interestingly, Nopalea™ contains a lot of Beta sitosterol.

Also, because of the effect hormones exert on the prostate, a healthy level of Vitamin D is considered indispensable in building a healthy prostate.

Other nutrients
Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. The amino acids Alanine, L-Glutamic acid and Glycine, as found in Prostate Health Formula™, help build healthy proteins in the prostate and keep out unhealthy proteins. The tomato and watermelon antioxidant lycopene accumulates in the prostate and protects it from rapid aging. Certain pollens also act to shrink a benign enlarged prostate. And stinging nettle contains phytochemicals that help reduce pain and inflammation.

Nurturing
Stress is a real enemy to a healthy prostate. Stress can render active forms of testosterone inert and useless. At the same time, stress promotes or “up-regulates” two toxic enzymes: 5-alpha reductase (called 5AR) and aromatase. 5AR kills testosterone and aromatase builds estrogen: neither of these is good for building a healthy prostate.

Fortunately, vigorous exercise and the adaptogen herb Glycyrrhiza uralensis, as found in Adaptogen 10 Plus®, help down-regulate 5AR and aromatase.

Conclusion
As with all other hormone-sensitive tissues, the cycle of form, function and detoxification are very important.

  1. We form healthy prostate hormones from good fats and proteins.
  2. We promote healthy prostate function through mineral antioxidants, from supplements
    and from foods.
  3. We promote detoxification through exercise, stress reduction and by reducing inflammation.

There it is… those three simple steps help build a healthy prostate for life!
