Diet can play an important role in lowering your cholesterol.
But can a simple bowl of oatmeal help lower your cholesterol?
The simple answer is yes it can… and here’s why..
Oatmeal contains soluble fibre, which reduces your low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, the "bad" cholesterol.
Soluble fibre is also found in such foods as kidney beans, Brussels sprouts, apples and pears.
Soluble fibre can reduce the absorption of cholesterol into your bloodstream. Five to 10 grams or more of soluble fibre a day decreases your LDL cholesterol.
One serving of a breakfast cereal with oatmeal or oat bran provides 3 to 4 grams of fibre.
If you add fruit, such as a banana or berries, you'll get even more fibre.
So oats can be a very positive move toward improving your cholesterol.
Adding blueberries to your oatmeal is a delicious way to start the day plus you’ll pick up all the other health benefits that blueberries provide!
And while your adding things to your oatmeal why not add a few walnuts or even some flaxseeds to give you an even bigger health boost!
