Can You Relate

Posted by Bobby Brown on June 04, 2023 - 10:32pm

Can you relate? If so, you aren't alone.

ISSUE: With everything that is going on in the world, it's natural to feel confused, in-limbo and unsure of what next steps to take, and to question whether it makes sense to do anything at all! But, being stagnant is not healthy for your brain or body, and can actually lead to more fatigue, confusion and depressed feelings.

WHY? Your brain evolved to weigh effort against reward. It's actually a 'life-saving' feature of being human because it takes a lot of energy for your body-brain system to function. It's normal to be consciously and unconsciously weighing-out how to best place/use your energy. So, if it appears like the world is in a very uncertain place, your brain & body, prefers to wait things out, rather invest energy un-necessarily. But this is not helpful or healthy thinking!

SITUATION: It's essential for you to keep taking action, and not simply wait for the world to figure itself out, because the world will always be changing and evolving, so that means that you'd always be stuck! *As well, you have a brain so that your body can move effectively in the environment around you; sourcing resources, interacting with others, and pursuing goals. So you have to take action for your brain to stay relevant and useful!

SOLUTIONS: Every time you take action to meet a need, even a small one like preparing yourself a snack, the reward pathways of your brain are stimulated and you get a release of "Happy-Feel-Good" neurochemicals. So, even if you don't have everything figured out, do something, anything at all!
