I have long hailed dark chocolate as a superfood rich in flavonoids, polyphenols , Vitamins A, B, C, D, E, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, potassium and even probiotics. Many studies have been surfacing that challenge the healthy benefits of dark chocolate. But if you look closely at the fine print, study after study revealed that they had been conducted or funded by subsidiaries of the worlds largest candy makers: Hershey Center for Health and Nutrition, Mars Science Advisory Council, and Nestlé Research Center, just to name a few. Hmmm, Why would that be? Is it because these major manufacturers don’t want us consuming dark chocolate over their less healthier versions?Chocolate in the US is a big business, retailing at $18.9 billion. What do you think?
