Deficiency In Omega 3 and Kids

Posted by Bobby Brown on November 17, 2021 - 5:18pm

15-20% of the dry weight of the brain is made up of DHA, an omega 3 fatty acid found in oily fish. DHA plays an essential role in building the structure of brain cell membranes, which are key for optimal neurotransmitter signalling.

Research suggests that there is a connection between deficiencies in omega 3, as well as defects in fatty acid metabolism and neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD and dyslexia.

This is no surprise, as we know that brain cell membranes are dependent on our dietary intake of omega 3, which is why it is important to consume foods such as oily fish and seafood, and if you're vegan, foods such as walnuts, flaxseeds and chia seeds, on a regular basis.
