Eat The Rainbow

Posted by Bobby Brown on September 17, 2020 - 11:22am

Classifying food has always been problematic for the average individual looking for a balanced diet. But now scientific evidence has presented us with a solution to this.

Categorizing food according to their color has proven to be a significant step forward in providing identifying beneficial nutrients for the average individual with little time to spend on following complex diets. This is important because unlike a lot of diets out there, this is actually backed by science.

It has been tested and proven that there exist certain chemicals called phytonutrients that are beneficial to us. These phytonutrients are secreted by the plants to ward off attacks from bacteria and fungi. What is interesting is the fact that foods of the same color contain the same type of phytonutrients. So if you were to consume different colors of vegetables all through the week, then your body would have gotten all the necessary nutrients that it needs.

Red food contains lycopene which is a primary source of vitamin A. Orange/yellow foods are rich in beta-carotene which helps you get healthy skin, teeth and bones. It also has folate which is essential for cellular growth and tissue regeneration. Green is a great source of vitamin K, which helps clotting. Additionally, it can increase your resistances to chronic diseases. White foods give your body resistance against strokes and other cardiovascular diseases.

So these are the several benefits you get while consuming all colors of foods. The infographic that we have published can give you more detail about what exactly can help you get optimal body health.

Key Points:

  • Phytonutrients increase your body’s resistance to several chronic ailments.
  • Consuming all colors of food a week can give your body a complete diet.
  • A low calorie diet like this will help keep you at a healthy weight.
