After a drive through the magnificent Catalan countryside, you will board a train at Monistrol de Montserrat station and enjoy a short uphill journey into the Montserrat range, home of Santa Maria de Montserrat, a stunning Benedictine abbey perched more than 4,000 feet above the valley. The abbey has stood here, nestled among dome-like rock formations and craggy peaks, for centuries. During your visit, you will learn about the daily lives of the monks and the story of “La Moreneta,” the “Black Virgin” in the abbey’s basilica. If our schedule coincides with their recitals, you will hear the golden voices of the Escolania de Montserrat boys’ choir, one of Europe’s oldest music schools. You will have free time to explore the grounds and the abbey’s shops. Note that basilica visits are not permitted during mass.
