Harmful Tea Ingredients You Need to Know About

Posted by Bobby Brown on May 01, 2021 - 11:06am

Teas are some of the most widely consumed beverages other than water and coffee. It doesn’t really come as a huge surprise since the many health perks offered by teas are known and revered for thousands and thousands of years now.

Currently, teas are more popular than ever. In order to have access to them, one no longer needs to comb the entire city just to come across a lowly herbal shop — the shelves of today’s supermarkets and convenience stores alike are lined with all kinds of brands and blends of tea, each one claiming to offer all sorts of amazing benefits from alleviating indigestion, relieving anxiety and depression, lowering stress to promoting a good night’s sleep.

Unfortunately, experts say that some of today’s commercially-available teas may in fact do more harm than good, courtesy of some of their ingredients that may cause some unfavorable health effects.

So if you are fond of trying one type or brand of tea after the other, keep on reading this article — below you will come across some common tea ingredients that may harm you in some way.

Got some health-conscious family members and friends who are just as fond of drinking tea as you? Then don’t forget to share this article on your various social media sites later on so that they, too, may avoid commercially-available teas that contain the following health-damaging ingredients:

Pesticides

Does your favorite brand of tea brandish the word “organic” on its label or packaging? If not, then every cup of it that you whip up could be tainted with pesticides necessary for mass-growing tea plants.

The problem with pesticides is that many of them are known as hormone disruptors — substances that can cause hormonal imbalance.

So many different problems can stem from hormonal imbalance. They can range anywhere from bloating, mood swings, anxiety, depression, hair loss, acne, elevated blood sugar, heart palpitations, infertility to certain forms of cancer.

Flavorings

Some people steer clear of drinking teas because they are not particularly fond of their flavors. In order to make their commodities appealing to as many types of consumers as possible, some manufacturers come up with teas boasting of really appealing flavors.

While they’re certainly pleasing to the taste buds, health authorities are not pleased — the use of artificial flavorings can easily cancel out the many health perks teas are known to offer.

Just because a particular tea variant comes with natural flavorings does not mean right away that it is better. Natural flavorings could be obtained anywhere from nature, including moss or snail slime — who knows?

Carcinogens

It’s no secret that one of the various health perks of teas is that they may help lower one’s risk of deadly cancer. That’s because teas are teeming with antioxidants that reduce oxidative stress, something that’s associated with cancer development. It’s just ironic that scientists say that certain commercially-available teas could increase your risk of cancer rather than keep it at bay.

There’s no denying that it’s so much easier to use tea bags rather than loose leaf. All you have to do is dunk a tea bag in hot water and come back to it after a few minutes. It all depends on how weak or strong you want the brew to be.

Sadly, numerous scientific investigations say that paper tea bags are treated with a chemical that, when exposed to high temperatures, could yield a carcinogen — a substance that may cause cancer.

What to Do

If you want to dodge the above-mentioned harmful tea ingredients, there’s only one thing to do: carefully read the packaging or label before placing any tea in your shopping cart. By making sure that what you are brewing and sipping is completely harmless, every tea time of yours can be a relaxing moment.
