Is A Morning Cup Of Coffee Good For You?

Posted by Bobby Brown on June 10, 2025 - 1:18pm

A new study suggests that the timing of your morning coffee might be more important for your heart health than previously thought. People who drink coffee primarily in the morning have a lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease and a reduced overall mortality risk compared to those who drink coffee throughout the day.

The research analyzed data from over 40,000 adults from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. It found that 36% of participants drank coffee in the morning, 16% drank it all day, and 48% didn’t drink coffee at all. Morning coffee drinkers were 16% less likely to die from any cause and 31% less likely to die from cardiovascular disease. On the other hand, drinking coffee throughout the day showed no such benefits.

The study didn’t just focus on whether people drank coffee but also when they drank it. Morning coffee drinkers, whether they had one or more cups, showed health benefits. It was suggested that drinking coffee later in the day might disrupt circadian rhythms and affect hormone levels like melatonin, which can, in turn, impact cardiovascular health.

One potential reason for the morning coffee benefit could be that our bodies are naturally more alert and ready to process caffeine in the morning, as we wake up and experience a surge in sympathetic nervous system activity. This is when our bodies are most active, and coffee could enhance this natural energy boost without interfering with the body’s internal clock. However, drinking coffee in the afternoon or evening could disrupt this natural rhythm, leading to problems with sleep and stress responses, which could negatively affect heart health.

It has been concluded that coffee’s timing could affect our sympathetic nervous system, which is linked to stress and heart health. So, for those who love their daily cup, it might be better to stick to the morning if you want to keep your heart in top shape.
