??The bacteria that make up the micro-biome are all living organisms. Like the body they live in, they also have nuclei and mitochondria. They have cell walls, take in oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide, and are similarly threatened by a lack of nutrients and too many toxins. Just like any cell in the body they can become stressed and spin out of balance, losing their redox potential.

??When these bacteria are healthy and flourishing, they have little genes that switch on and off. The expression of those genes turns on the body's genes, which are adaptogenic or variably expressed, and this is what enables us to concentrate, get work done and take care of ourselves.

??As with the rest of the cells in the body, redox signaling molecules can provide support to the various species of bacteria to maintain their redox potential and allow them to flourish. Repairing the gut epithelia is also made possible through having a good redox potential.
