Mental Health Under Quarantine

Posted by Bobby Brown on September 16, 2020 - 12:10pm

This is a difficult time in history for all of us. Many of us know someone who is sick, and all of us who are able have been maintaining social distancing in our homes. This social distancing can be difficult for many reasons, including that we aren’t always sure what’s ok and what’s not. But the most difficult part for many people is the toll it takes on mental health through changes in routine, feelings of helplessness, and more. We will get through this difficult time in human history, but it’s up to each and every one of us to look after our mental health.

Social isolation can be deadly. The loneliness epidemic has led to increases in blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, and strokes in much of the population, and because of social distancing these problems could escalate.

Finding a normal routine and setting boundaries is key. Get up and go to bed at the same time each day and ensure you are getting plenty of sleep. Eat regular meals and get exercise every day, even if it’s just a walk around the block. If you are working from home, set up a designated work space so you aren’t tempted to work in bed or on the couch, places normally reserved for rest and relaxation. Do a little cleaning each day to give you a sense of control over your environment and situation.

Small investments in your mental health right now will pay off in the long run. Learn more about mental health under quarantine from the infographic below.
