Range Free

Posted by Bobby Brown on July 25, 2020 - 4:40pm

You are paying more money for cage free/free range eggs, but this is what you are getting.

The only free range chickens and hens are those that are raised in an open pasture. The amount and type of omega-3 fatty acids found in eggs varies depending on the diet the hens are fed. Land O Lakes omega-3 eggs contain 160 milligrams of omega-3 per egg in the form of ALA, while eggs that come from hens raised in a pasture have a whopping 250 to 300 mg of omega three fatty acid’s in the absorbable form of DHA and EPA.

Companies such as Land O Lakes that claim their eggs have omega-3s are made by feeding the chickens some flaxseed in their meal. The essential omega-3 fatty acid‘s that come from flaxseed are in ALA form, not DHA or EPA form, which are the ones that are critical for brain development, brain health, cardiovascular functioning and much more.

Bill Rippel We raised our own chickens when I was younger. And had our own eggs, always fresh. The eggs you buy in the store now don't taste anywhere close to the eggs we had before. Here in Mexico I always buy my eggs from the farmers that have their own chickens. And they are very good, just like I remember.
