Get to know Sabah’s capital as you explore local crafts, enjoy sweeping vistas and visit an open air museum. Meet your guide and drive to the Heritage Village, where house styles from Sabah’s history have been relocated and reassembled. In this open air museum, you can admire a bamboo house and the Murut and Rungus longhouses that were once central to island culture and family life. You will also drive by the elegant Sabah State Mosque. Influenced by contemporary and ancient Islamic architecture, it boasts a massive gold dome encircled by 16 smaller domes and can accommodate 5,000 worshippers. Its 215-foot-tall minaret dominates the cityscape. At the Handicraft Market, you will have time to browse for mementos—perhaps some of the freshwater cultured pearls for which Sabah is known. Later, sip a cool refreshment while enjoying the scenic views around you.
