St. Petersburg from its canals

Posted by Bobby Brown on February 07, 2020 - 7:10pm

CRUISE THE “VENICE OF THE NORTH”

Take in romantic views of St. Petersburg from its canals, and gain a perspective you could never achieve from land. Embark your touring boat to discover some of the city’s architectural gems. As you trace the city’s embankments along the Neva, Fontanka and Moyka Rivers, you will notice that each has its own character, from formal and grand to quiet and dreamlike. On land, visit St. Isaac’s Cathedral. Named for the patron saint of Peter the Great, its soaring gold dome tops the fourth largest cathedral in the world. At the Church of Our Saviour on Spilled Blood, the gem of St. Petersburg, admire the colorful decor and towering onion domes. Inside, too, you will find an ornate sanctuary adorned with richly hued mosaics. Belying its cheery facade, this magnificent church was built on the site where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated. The order of visits may vary.
