Posted by Bobby Brown on May 25, 2020 - 6:12pm

6 Superfoods to Boost Immune System

We know the importance of eating fruits, vegetables, lean meats, healthy fats, plant based proteins and whole grains, but to boost your immune system it’s particularly important to focus on foods that give you vitamins and essential amino acids to stay healthy.

The bonus side effect is that these 6 superfoods can also slow the aging process!

Boost Immune System

Staying Healthy

Preventing colds & flu is key to staying healthy, and boosting your immune system is one way prevent contracting a cold or flu virus.

'Never before has it been so important to boost our immune system to protect ourselves from contracting and potentially spreading a virus.'

These 6 Superfoods can help you boost your immune system and stay as healthy as possible during these uncertain times.

Lean Meat - Essential Amino Acids

Lean meats are one of the key foods high in essential amino acids. Our immune systems are highly dependent on amino acids for making key proteins that are required to maximize immune function.

Essential amino acids play an important role in immune function and supporting the immune system when fighting infection. They are critical to protein synthesis and the formation of white blood cells and antibodies. All of which are required for your body to fight off infectious disease.

Evidence reported in the British Journal of Nutrition shows that dietary supplementation of amino acids enhances the immune system. A supplement such as MyoHealthessential amino acids can give your immune system the boost it needs.

Spices  - Turmeric & Cinnamon

Turmeric has many health benefits and is a fantastic anti inflammatory.  Its anti oxidant properties help boost the immune system while its high concentration of cur cumin can help decrease exercise induced muscle damage.

Cinnamon has many of the same antioxidant properties and helps your body fight infections and repair tissue damage.

Add to soups, stews, whole grain dishes and even protein smoothies for a healthy boost with breakfast.

Citrus Fruits

Vitamin C is another way to increase production of white blood cells, a key in fighting infections.  Fruits high in Vitamin C include oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruit.

Vegetables High in Vitamins C

Don't stop at fruits for getting your daily quota of vitamin C - veggies such as broccoli, red peppers contain a surprising amount of Vitamin C (more than an orange!) while also providing beta carotene, vitamin A, E, fibre and antioxidants.

Garlic & Ginger

Garlics contains powerful sulphuric compounds (like allicin) that can wipe out bacteria and infection.  Raw garlic is an immune boosting superstar. Try it in a salad dressing by combining thd juice of 1/2 a lemon, 3 cloves of raw garlic finely chopped and 4-5 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil.

Ginger can help decrease inflammation, which can reduce a sore throat, and it aids in digestion while boosting your immune system and immune response to a virus. Try some in a ginger tea.

Yogurt

The live and active cultures in greek yogurts can stimulate your immune system to help fight disease while the Vitamin D in yogurt can regulate the immune system and boost the body's natural defence against disease.
