It is often said, that the true test of character is not how well we manage to do during the good times, but how we hold ourselves up during the tough times.

The biggest take away from this year- and there have been many - is that we cannot take anything for granted.  Not prosperity, not growth, not health… not even life itself.   Indeed, this is the reason why many of us have turned introspective to ask the questions about what is really important.  Since life is so precious, how do I really want to live it?

It is a type of accounting, if you will.   we need to look at the budget of our lives and take stock:  what are the things you need to “spend” on, and what are the things you really cannot afford?

I need to spend more time on my personal growth.
I need to spend more time amongst the right people.
I need to spend more time inside the right books.

I cannot afford to waste years doing things that don’t fulfil me.
I cannot afford to waste my energies entertaining doubt.
I cannot afford to waste years of my life held back by shackles…

…to which I hold the key.
