Time To Fight Your Own Battles

Posted by Bobby Brown on March 07, 2025 - 5:11pm

The Power of Fighting Your Own Battles ~ Owning Yourself, Fully

I spent years longing to be 'normal' – until I realized normal was just an illusion. A story I was told. A story I believed. A narrative sold to me by well-intentioned voices that inadvertently made me feel like I was never enough.

In truth, it was a barrier keeping me from embracing who I truly am.

And I know I'm not alone.

We all carry wounds ~ some leave behind scars, others become our armor, and if left unattended, they can even turn into weapons. These wounds, born from our past, once defined us - silencing our voices and shaping our behavior in ways we hardly noticed.

As children, we never chose the survival tools we were given. They were forged in moments of fear ~ molded by circumstances beyond our control.

And before we even knew it, we began to see ourselves through the wrong lens...

➡️ Believing that anxiety was a sign of weakness.

➡️ That people-pleasing was kindness.

➡️ That avoiding conflict meant we were peaceful.

But in reality...

➡️ People-pleasing was a way to keep ourselves safe.

➡️ Avoiding conflict wasn’t peace - it was fear disguised as peace.

But survival is not the same as living.

We don't hurt others because we're bad ~ we hurt others because we're wounded.

What if we were never broken at all, just misled into believing we were?

What if we had been looking at ourselves through the wrong lens all along?

Our society trains us to focus on what's wrong - to spot flaws and build walls instead of bridges.

Because a world that profits off our fear has no interest in us seeing our own strength.

But when we look closer, we realize...

➡️ Society is made up of us.

➡️ Our shared struggles.

➡️ Our collective strength.

And that means we have a choice.

Because when we take our power back - when we take responsibility for our own patterns - we stop passing down the pain.

We shift the culture.

We create a ripple effect ~ one that reaches our families, our communities, and shapes a future beyond politics and conflict.

This is how cycles are broken. And it doesn’t have to be grand. A single choice. A single step. That’s how change begins.

It happens in those transformative moments when we:

➡️ Pause before reacting.

➡️ Listen instead of assuming.

➡️ Replace old hurts with fresh acts of kindness.

➡️ Embrace vulnerability ~ even when the fear of judgment is real.

➡️ Stay open to truths that challenge our perspective.

I share this knowing full well the risk of vulnerability.

I feel the weight of judgment ~ and my own wounds sometimes whisper that I might be misunderstood.

But I choose to rise.

Because every person who chooses awareness over instinctive reaction ~ who opts for love over fear ~ contributes to a collective transformation.

We don’t rise by standing alone - we rise together.

The shift happens the moment we choose to break the cycle.

And that decision...

➡️ It starts with me.

➡️ It starts with you.

➡️ It starts with all of us ~ right now.

It won’t always be easy, and the journey may be daunting.

But it is a journey worth taking ~ and it is so needed for us now.

Maybe for you, it's breaking the cycle of self-doubt.

Maybe it's speaking up when you've always stayed silent.

Maybe it's setting a boundary where fear used to hold you back.

Whatever it is ~ it matters. And it starts now.

I don't write this because I've figured it all out.

I write this because I am in it too.

Because every day, I remind myself to shift my own lens, to stay open, to recognize when it’s my ego speaking ~ to choose differently ~ to keep breaking the cycles that no longer serve me.

Which cycle will you break today? And what will you create instead? Are You Ready For A Change
