Western Diet Increases Alzheimer's Risk

Posted by Bobby Brown on September 20, 2020 - 2:00pm

Alzheimer’s disease, a traumatizing disease that destroys the neuro systems associated with memory. Devastating to the loved ones around the victim of this vicious disease. Recent studies are showing that one’s diet can be a major contributing factor to their risk of having Alzheimer’s in the future. The study claims that a western diet from information gathered over fifteen years has an increase of having Alzheimer’s due to the amount of meat consumption. The study goes on to say reducing the amount of meat you eat will reduce the risk of having Alzheimer’s in the future.

Key Points:

  • Globally, about 42 million people now have dementia, with Alzheimer’s disease as the most common type of dementia.
  • Dietary supply of meat or animal products (minus milk) 5 years before Alzheimer’s disease prevalence had the highest correlations with alzheimer’s disease prevalence in this study.
  • Residents of the United States seem to be at particular risk, with each person in the U.S. having about a 4% chance of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
