Your Mind Is Your Best Friend

Posted by Bobby Brown on May 25, 2023 - 1:17pm

Our minds are so complicated because they can simultaneously be both our best friends and our worst enemies.

Our mind is responsible for all the pleasures we've enjoyed as well as all of the sufferings we've endured.

Our mind is both our greatest asset and our greatest detriment.

Our minds have been the source from which many dreams have flourished and have also been the cause of countless destroyed dreams.

Our minds produce all of our beautiful loving thoughts and actions but our same mind has also produced so many disgusting hateful thoughts too.

If we let our minds go untamed and unchecked they will be like wild animals that we have no control over, just doing whatever they please at the moment.

So what do we do then???

We begin to train our minds and reprogram our subconscious through a multitude of practices to put ourselves back in the driver's seat instead of just letting our minds run rampant.

To do this we must become comfortable with being uncomfortable.

We need to become aware of our thoughts, why we think these thoughts, and ask if our current thinking is helping or hurting us?

We also need to understand that just because we think a fucked up thought, it doesn't mean we're a fucked up person.

We are not our thoughts, we are merely the observer of our thoughts, and it is what we choose to do with these thoughts, both good and bad, that truly matters.

Mind Training Practices include:

1. Mindfulness Practices (ex. meditation, deep breathing, gratitude practice, thinkitate, etc.)

2. Exercise

3. Journaling

4. Hot & Cold exposure (ex. sauna, ice bath, cold shower etc.)

5. Sufficient sleep

6. Nature walks

All of these practices help to both train your mind and make it stronger, as well as take care of it and help it properly recover each day so that it's serving us not destroying us.

Doing these practices doesn't mean that we will never have negative thoughts again, or that we won't still have our bad days and be stuck in our heads overthinking.

But they will significantly help us to shift our mindset on a consistent basis and when we do have those bad thoughts or bad days, we are now much stronger, more resilient individuals capable of dealing with these, as we have good habits and practices we can now lean on.

WE HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE OUR MIND OUR BEST FRIEND!!!
