Why Your Crypto Portfolio Looks Like a Horror Movie (And How to Survive the Sequel)

Posted by Chris Corey on June 22, 2026 - 4:06pm

The Opening Scene: You Check Your Portfolio

It's a quiet Tuesday morning. You're sipping coffee. You feel optimistic. Then you open your tracker and immediately understand why horror movies always begin in calm suburbia. The carnage. The bloodshed. The unspeakable deeds committed by a token called $MOONSAFE69 that you bought at 3am after "doing research" in a Telegram group whose admin's profile picture was a goose in sunglasses.

Meet the Cast of Your Personal Nightmare

The Cursed Influencer Pick. Pumped 400% in two days. You bought at the absolute top. It now trades for the energy cost of the transaction. The influencer has deleted the tweet, blocked you, and started a goat farm in Portugal.

The "Promising L2." Three months ago it was the future of Ethereum. Today the Discord has 17 active members and 14 of them are bots arguing with each other in broken English about a NFT mint that already happened.

The Coin You Forgot You Owned. Somehow up 12,000%. You sold it for an 11% gain in 2022. You will think about this every night until you die.

The Plot Twist: It's Mostly You

Look, we love you. The MCG Crew loves you. But statistically, the call is coming from inside the house. Most crypto pain isn't because crypto is broken — it's because position sizing, exit plans, and basic risk management got skipped in favor of vibes. Vibes are not a strategy. Vibes are how you ended up holding bags of a project whose whitepaper was written in Comic Sans and cited "the metaverse" 41 times without defining it once.

How to Stop Filming a Sequel

Size for survival, not glory. If a 50% drawdown on one position would make you sell your couch, the position is too big. Crypto rewards the people who are still in the room when the music starts again.

Write your exit before you enter. Future-you, mid-pump, with dopamine flooding the brain, cannot be trusted. Pre-commit. Put it in writing. Tape it to the monitor next to the picture of your dog looking disappointed.

Audit your own narrative. If your only reason for holding a coin is "it'll come back" — that's not analysis. That's grief. Grief is fine. Just don't confuse it with a thesis.

Boring is alpha. The unsexy answer is usually right: a Bitcoin core, a few high-conviction alts, ruthless cash reserves, and the discipline to do nothing for long stretches while everyone on X is screaming about a dog token.

The Closing Credits

Your portfolio isn't haunted. It's just honest. It's showing you, in glorious red, exactly where your process broke down. The good news? The next chart is unwritten. The bad news? You're the one writing it. So write a better one. The MCG Crew is here for the rewrite.
