[and be respectful to them]—
this is the first commandment with a promise— 

3 so that it may be well with you, and that you may have a long life on the earth.

Leviticus 20:9
9 ‘If anyone curses his father or mother, he shall most certainly
be put to death; he has cursed his father or mother; his blood is on him
[that is, he bears full responsibility for the consequences].

Proverbs 30:17

so you shall remove the evil from among you,

1 Corinthians 13:1-3
13 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not

2 And if I have the gift of prophecy [and speak a new message from God to the people],
and understand all mysteries, and [possess] all knowledge; 
and if I have all [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains,
but do not have love [reaching out to others], I am nothing. 

3 If I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body
to be burned, but do not have love, it does me no good at all.
