Top Airport Parking, a Denver International Airport parking provider, began accepting Bitcoin, Dogecoin and more than twenty other crypto-currencies.

Founded by Brett Hardwood, the San Francisco parking chose to first accept crypto in Denver due to the city’s reputation as open-minded, according to CEO and co-founder of Noson, Top Airport Parking’s parent company, Patrick Murray.

“With the big technology scene in Denver, and a large percentage of our customers as millennials, we felt Denver would be a great place to launch,” said Murray, whose company will accept digital currency alongside credit cards. “We plan to slowly expand to other cities throughout the year.”

/Murray, who is one of the National Parking Association’s 2016 “40 Under 40,” notes that Noson’s partners are licensed and the company holds thousands of spaces within 10 minutes of Denver International by car. One lot that added Top Airport Parking is ParkDIA, a few minutes from the DIA terminal.

“We saw how he did things a little differently and not just the price structure,” said Kyle Geddes, ParkDIA’s director of client services. “He also listed customer reviews. … That’s been great for getting the word out.”

Geddes was unaware of Top Airport Parking’s cryptocurrency launch. That might be due to the fact that, if one wishes to pay for Airport Parking with Bitcoin, they must visit Top Airport’s website.

According to Stephanie Robert, of the National Parking Association’s Vice President of Marketing, Bitcoin is an uncommon payment in the industry. “We believe that this is an early-adopter company that is using bitcoin. We have not seen this become an industry trend,” she said.

But, for Murray, this isn’t a publicity stunt. Rather, he believes in Bitcoin as an alternative form of payment. “Though bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies aren’t too mainstream just yet,” he said, “we want to support them any way we can.”

Noson Inc., the parent company of Top Airport Parking, aims to launch in 30 U.S airport markets by the end of 2017. They are currently in seven markets, and use Coinbase and CoinPayments integrations to accept their cryptocurrency payments.

Noson states as a goal making airport parking easy. Perhaps the cryptocurrencies are a part of the overarching goal.

Bitcoins have made it into our nation’s airports in a way other than airport parking. Bitcoin ATM’s have begun cropping up in Airports, such as Coinsource operated Genesis Bitcoin ATM at JFK Airport in New York City, where one can buy or sell bitcoins.
