Is Microstrategy About To Sell Bitcoin?

Is Microstrategy About To Sell Bitcoin?

Coin Bureau - Is Microstrategy About To Sell Bitcoin?

"The world’s biggest corporate Bitcoin holder is facing a critical January deadline, collapsing premiums, shrinking cash reserves, and up to $8.8B in potential forced selling.

In this video, we break down the MSCI decision, the end of the “infinite money glitch,” and whether Strategy could actually be pushed into selling its BTC — and what that would mean for the entire crypto market."

~ Coin Bureau

The video discusses the growing fear that Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, may be forced to sell its holdings due to two major financial threats: a critical MSCI index decision in January 2026 that could trigger up to $8.8 billion in forced selling of MSTR stock by passive funds, and the collapse of the stock's premium, which has shut down the "infinite money glitch" of issuing cheap equity to buy more BTC, despite the company facing significant annual dividend obligations. While the company's debt is not under immediate threat of margin call, and the CEO has denied rumours of selling, the short-term pressure is immense, and the company is currently cash-poor. However, data suggests Strategy’s historical buying accounted for only about 3.3% of weekly Bitcoin volume, leading to the conclusion that while index exclusion would cause volatility and a short-term hit to the market, Bitcoin has outgrown its reliance on Strategy, and the uncoupling could ultimately be a healthy step for the asset.
