Fastnet Race 2019 - A send off with Style on Friday night

Posted by David Ogden on July 24, 2019 - 7:56am

Troubadour

On the eve of the Fastnet, we are having send off in Style at the Royal Yacht Squadron. in Cowes IOW.

A DRINKS RECEPTION FOR “TROUBADOUR” AT THE ROYAL YACHT SQUADRON ON FRIDAY 2ND AUGUST

Short notice I know (this all happened over the weekend and I only found out myself yesterday!) but, as I believe most of you will already know, OPYC Member Andy Roy has entered his yacht Troubadour in the 2019 Fastnet Race which starts from Cowes on August 3rd

Royal Yacht Squadron member Merrick Rayner has stepped in with the very kind offer of a drinks reception to be held on the ‘Platform’ at the RYS from 1800 to 1915 on Friday 2nd as a fitting send-off to the largely OPYC squad who have worked so hard for the last couple of years training for the event.  There will be a cost involved but I regret this hasn’t been worked out yet – it’s bound to be good value!!!  I will advise as soon as I know more.

Andy’s yacht is TROUBADOUR,  a now race fit Swan 46 which will be berthed in the RYS “Haven” on the Friday night and available for viewing – very close to the start line.  .

What they have done to qualify for this iconic race is a huge achievement and a " giant leap " for the OPYC members!   I don’t think any of them have ever done anything like this before.

We will be sending them off with some drinks and our best wishes on the Platform/Ramparts of the RYS on Friday 2 August from 18.00 to 19.15. Dress code is informal i.e. Jackets and ties are not required. I and am sure there will be an opportunity to look at Troubadour which will be moored down below. The OP Squad are going for dinner afterwards at Murrays and would be delighted if you wished to join them.  Murrays is the well-known fish and seafood restaurant BUT, please note Murrays is not that big so it will be first come, first served.  See online for full details.  We have a Plan “B” but please let me know asap if you wish to attend drinks and/or dinner - All supporters will be most welcome.

The Fastnet crew is made up of the following OPYC members:

Andy Roy
Peter Kewish
James Morrow
Ian Kirton
David Ogden
Jeremy Owen
Larry Howard

Tudor Rose

Ian Williams

Rear Commodore & Hon Sec OPYC

We will have no excuse for being late for the start, as the "Haven"   is  only a short distance from the start line we could be pole position.
