The question of how many people have become infected with the virus is highly controversial.
Official numbers are 3,000. Neil Ferguson, a public health expert at Imperial College London, told the Guardian that up to 100,000 people could be infected.

According to "Guardian", Ferguson models for WHO how the virus spreads. An infected person could infect up to three other people, he says.

"My best estimate is that there are already 100,000 cases," Ferguson told the Guardian. But it could also be between 30,000 and 200,000. "However, tens of thousands are almost certainly infected."
