The Brazilian surveillance authority for health, Anvisa, has approved another test for a corona vaccine - this time with German participation. The Mainz-based biopharma company Biontech and the US company Pfizer received the green light for a clinical study with their vaccine.

Brazil clears the way for clinical testing of a corona vaccine developed in Germany. Anvisa allowed Biontech and Pfizer companies to start testing for a vaccine against COVID-19 in Brazil, according to a publication in Tuesday's "Diário Oficial" official journal.

Third COVID-19 vaccine enters phase III
It is the third permit of this type by the agency to verify the effectiveness of corona vaccinations. At the beginning of the week, the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac launched the decisive third test phase of its vaccine in Brazil. Almost 9,000 health care workers are expected to receive the vaccine. According to a report by the newspaper "O Globo", one million volunteers had last registered for the test in five days. A vaccine from the British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, developed by researchers at Oxford University, has been tested in the largest and most populous country in Latin America since June.

The virus is still spreading rapidly in Brazil with around 210 million inhabitants. More than two million people have contracted corona, and more than 80,000 people have died from COVID-19 lung disease. The authorities report around 1,000 deaths every day. "If all goes well, we may have vaccination in Brazil in the first quarter of 2021," Ricardo Palacios, director of medical studies at the Instituto Butantan, said in a recent interview.

USA orders hundreds of millions of vaccine doses
As announced today, the United States has already reached an agreement with Pfizer and Biontech. According to the dpa, the two companies want to deliver 100 million doses of the corona vaccine to the USA. The US pays $ 1.95 billion for this. There is an option for an additional 500 million doses of vaccine. The New York Times reports that US citizens should receive the corona vaccination free of charge.

Kevin Jacobson That sounds promising.
