CHINA : Ist der Handelskrieg beendet?

China and the United States signed a first trade agreement on January 15. The text was not published immediately. According to the US, China wants to commit to increasing its imports from the United States. The existing tariffs on Chinese imports are to remain in place for the time being. The agreement is intended to mark the first phase of a broader agreement.
A new type of corona virus is spreading in China. According to Chinese authorities, 440 people have been infected with the lung disease so far, nine of them have died. The virus is believed to come from an animal market in Wuhan.
Leaked documents from the Chinese Communist Party demonstrate for the first time the extent of the persecution of the Uighurs in the northwest of the country. The so-called China Cables were leaked to the International Network of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) by a whistleblower.
There have been protests in the Chinese Hong Kong Special Administrative Region since June 2019. Hong Kong is managed autonomously as a separate territory. China celebrated the 70th anniversary of the People's Republic on October 1, 2019. In Beijing, the Communist government held the largest military parade in the country's history.
