Dear friends of Hungary, freedom of travel

As you probably all know, Hungary has sealed itself off from the outside world to protect itself against the corona virus. It had been clear for a long time that Austrians were allowed to enter again in the middle of the month, but during the past weekend it was surprisingly announced without much notice on the Foreign Minister's Facebook page that Germans were again without Hungarian residence or business event and above all without quarantine or negative Test allowed to enter Hungary and implemented on Sunday. The same applies to Czechs, Slovaks, Slovenes and Serbs.
It is important that they are citizens of the states mentioned and that they also have to enter from or through these states. To the best of our knowledge, an Austrian who comes to the Hungarian border from Croatia or a Swiss resident in Slovakia is not free to enter (however, transit to residence is still possible with restrictions).
Hungarians and all foreigners with permanent residence in Hungary may also travel to Germany, Austria etc. without restrictions and return to Hungary without quarantine. If there is no freedom of travel for your nationality, please take your Hungarian papers with you and consider that you should provide proof of your place of residence outside of Hungary so as not to suspect that you were in a country that was still 14 - Requires daily quarantine.
Please note that the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin will maintain its worldwide travel warning until June 14, 2020, of course this also applies to Hungary. Furthermore, please note the rules of conduct in Hungary, the German embassy in Budapest provides detailed information: https://budapest.diplo.de/hu-de/aktuelles/-/2316662
Legal notice: we are not allowed to advise you legally and have only compiled information from publicly available sources. Despite the greatest of care, we cannot accept any liability for the information mentioned. Given the general situation, it is possible that the Hungarian government may at any time make changes to the rules mentioned.
See you in Hungary!
