Großbritannien beteiligt Huawei am 5G-Aufbau

Großbritannien beteiligt Huawei am 5G-Aufbau

London has decided: Huawei can help build the next mobile communications standard in the United Kingdom. How does Washington react?
The Chinese network supplier Huawei is allowed to participate in the expansion of the superfast 5G mobile radio networks in Great Britain. Providers that are considered risky should only be excluded from core areas of the network, the British government said after a meeting of the National Security Council in London. This would clear the way for the use of Huawei technology, at least in parts of the infrastructure.

With the decision, Prime Minister Boris Johnson is likely to cause trouble for American President Donald Trump, who accuses the world's largest network supplier and second largest smartphone manufacturer of espionage. The United States has asked its allies not to work with the company. The Chinese network supplier always rejected the allegations.

"Fox in the chicken coop?"
Thanks to its extremely fast response time, 5G should enable communication in real time. This is an important prerequisite for remote control of industrial plants or robot cars. At the same time, 5G networks also have a lot more computer technology in infrastructure such as antennas, which can make them more susceptible to espionage and sabotage.

Britain is hoping for a lucrative trade agreement with the United States after it leaves the European Union. The dispute over Huawei could put considerable strain on the negotiations in advance.

A possible participation of the company in Great Britain had also met resistance in Johnson's Conservative Party. The parliamentarian Tom Tugendhat had warned that a participation of the group would be comparable to "permission to let the fox in the chicken coop".

Germany has also been discussing for months whether Huawei should be excluded from 5G expansion in Germany. This Wednesday, the EU Commission wants to present security recommendations for the member countries.
