Harvey Weinstein Two other charges in Los Angeles

While the trial of the fallen film mogul Harvey Weinstein began in New York on Monday, a court in Los Angeles is now also indicting him.

Even after two years, the allegations against Harvey Weinstein (67) do not stop: the former film producer is accused of numerous sexual offenses and multiple rapes. While the trial of Weinstein began on Monday on the East Coast, in New York, the Los Angeles District Court is now indicting him.

As the Los Angeles County Attorney General, Jackie Lacey, explained, Weinstein had to answer for two separate cases in 2013. The basis for this is the allegations of two women whom Weinstein allegedly raped in her hotel rooms in 2013 within two days or urged her to have oral sex. "The evidence will show that the defendant has used his influence to approach his victims and commit violent crimes against them," the court's announcement said. If Weinstein is found guilty, he faces 28 years in prison.

Process start in New York
In the New York trial, on the other hand, only formalities were completed on Monday. The jury selection will begin on Tuesday. Weinstein, who recently underwent a back surgery, reentered the courtroom with a walker and was supported by his lawyers. However, the accused allegedly wants to be present throughout the trial.

At the heart of the New York trial are allegations of rape by two women. One of them is said to have forced Weinstein to have oral sex in 2006, the other he is said to have raped in 2013.

"Sopranos" actress Annabella Sciorra (59) also accuses the producer of raping her in 1993 - but the incident happened too long ago to raise charges. However, Sciorra will testify in the process, as will various other women. If Weinstein is found guilty, the 67-year-old faces a life sentence.
