Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) plans to introduce Uconnect 5, a new infotainment system for all of the Group's car brands, later this year. The new Uconnect 5 uses Android as the operating system, comes with a new user interface and displays content on larger touch screens in up to Ultra HD resolution.

The car manufacturer, which includes Fiat and Chrysler, among others, car brands such as Alfa Romeo, Dodge, Ferrari, Jeep, Lancia and Maserati and who is about to merge with the French Groupe PSA (Peugeot, Citroën), wants the infotainment system based on Google's Android in Offer in the first vehicles during the year, concrete models have not been named for the announcement.

Mitsubishi and Samsung are suppliers
Uconnect 5 will be available in two versions: the normal and Uconnect 5 Plus. Mitsubishi Electric is responsible for Uconnect 5 and will offer the system on a 7, 8.4 or 10.1 inch display, depending on the vehicle and equipment line. With Uconnect 5 Plus screens with 8.4, 10.1, 10.25, 12 and 12.3 inches are possible, whereby the number of the maximum supported displays increases from only one to four.

According to FCA, Uconnect 5 works up to five times faster than the previous generation infotainment system after switching from the previous Powernet to the new Atlantis architecture. For Uconnect 5, FCA names an unspecified processor with 20,000 MIPS processing power, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB flash memory and a maximum of 2 megapixel resolution for image output, for Uconnect 5 it is 50,000 MIPS, 6 GB RAM, 64 GB flash memory and 15 megapixels, so that multiple monitors with up to Ultra HD resolution can be controlled.
