It is the first agreement with a group of employees: Lufthansa has reached an agreement with the cabin crew on cost-cutting measures in the corona crisis. According to the UFO union, there is protection against dismissal until mid-2024.
Lufthansa has reached specific savings agreements with a first group of employees with which the corona crisis is to be overcome. The flight attendants approved the relevant crisis collective agreement with a majority of 87.9 percent in a ballot by the UFO cabin union. This was announced by UFO managing director Nicoley Baublies.

Clear rounds and part-time
The approximately 22,000 flight attendants will now have zero laps, additional part-time work and suspended benefits. According to UFO, there is employment protection until mid-2024. The savings volume is less than 25 percent of the costs. However, important details on the exact design are still open.
Baublies demanded quick discussions and concrete suggestions from Lufthansa. The UFO board has therefore also had a membership vote to be able to take industrial action at a later date. Lufthansa can terminate the contract with two weeks' notice if the economic conditions deteriorate dramatically.

Negotiations with ground staff broken off
Negotiations with the Ver.di union for the approximately 24,000 ground staff were recently broken off. The Lufthansa management considers the savings in personnel costs offered by Ver.di to be too low. The company's negotiations with the pilots are still ongoing.
The partially nationalized Lufthansa group had put its global surplus of personnel at 22,000 full-time positions after the Corona slump, of which around 11,000 are in Germany. In the medium term, the group expects a fleet that will be reduced by 100 jets and corresponding surplus personnel.
