: Nokia-Chef kritisiert 5G-Auktionen

The CEO of the Finnish mobile communications equipment manufacturer expects that the switch from 4G to 5G will go four times as quickly as in the previous generation - and appeals to politicians not to complicate the introduction.
Finnish network supplier Nokia does not expect the dispute over its Chinese competitor Huawei to lead to the establishment of various standards around the world. The United States has barred the Chinese from building new 5G cellular networks and is putting pressure on other countries to do the same. "I don't think there are different standards," said Nokia Rajeev Suri CEO during a panel discussion by Microsoft software company during the World Economic Forum in Davos. Rather, he expects the new 5G mobile communications standard to quickly establish itself uniformly. "The switch from 4G to 5G will be four times faster than in the previous generation," Suri predicts.
Suri appeals to politicians not to make the introduction of 5G networks more difficult. "They want the fastest network, so they are not allowed to assign the frequencies in auctions at the highest possible price." Because what is spent there is missing elsewhere for network investments. In Germany, the 5G spectrum was auctioned last year for around 6.6 billion euros. Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, Telefónica and Drillisch came into play. There are also separate frequencies for the local industrial use of 5G technology in companies. The new standard brings enormous benefits to industrial users in particular, Suri emphasized. The capacity is around 1000 times larger than in the previous network, the costs per bit operation, however, are significantly lower, as is the latency.
